The Boston Herald
Christmas Leftovers:
We hear that Deval Patrick's peeps are busy signing up musicians with some Mass. ties for the incoming gov's Inaugural Ball at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center Jan. 4. Names that have been bandied about include one-time Ray Charles Raelette, Patti Austin , jazz artist Walter Beasley and Herb Reed and The Platters. Word is that Boston singer/song writer Larry Woo Wedgeworth will perform the Victory Song that was used extensively during Deval's campaign.
Oak Bluffs summer rez Spike Lee is set to direct a biopic about the life of the late Godfather of Soul, James Brown . Brown reportedly was helping with the script before his death earlier this week. No word whether the flick will make reference to Mr. I-Feel-Good's famous Boston Garden performance the night after Martin Luther King's assassination.
Pop princess Mariah Carey hosted Niche Media's big Christmas bash at the oh-so-swish Hotel Jerome in Aspen the other night, alongside magazine bigwig Jason Binn. Niche is, of course, the company that brought you Boston Common magazine.
Finally, kudos to the boys at barstoolsports.com for coming up with a hilarious "Saturday Night Live" clip proving that the Weekend Update bunch broke the news of ex-President Gerald Ford 's death 10 years ago.

Rocky Mountain News
If you're hitting the slopes in Aspen or Snowmass on Christmas Day, you might want to watch out for singer Mariah Carey picking her way down the hill.
Carey, who gorgeously graces the cover of Aspen Peak magazine's holiday issue, confesses to being "not a great skier."
During her Glamour Gulch holiday this year, the Grammy-winning singer plans to try snowboarding. "I haven't gotten past the 'fall on your buttocks stage yet,' " she tells Aspen Peak, "so I'm waiting for that to happen."
Carey says she's been coming to Aspen during Christmas since 1997, and would like to build a place of her own on the outskirts of town. Carey plans to host an invite-only Boxing Day party at the Hotel Jerome on Dec. 26 to talk about her new CD and part in the movie Tennessee.

Mariah Carey is on the cover of Aspen Peak magazine, so no wonder she's going to be in town Boxing Day (Dec. 26) for a launch party at the Hotel Jerome for the issue.
Her people say she'll mingle, talk about an upcoming movie and her new perfume and tell who she's gonna kiss on New Year's Eve.
"I love the vibe of Aspen," she tells Aspen Peak. "Not necessarily the whole paparazzi-celebrity thing, which is cool, but I do stuff like going on sleigh rides with friends. Being out in Aspen is always so amazing and picturesque."
Asked where she's going to stay in Aspen, Carey says, "I don't know yet, but it has to have a hot tub... It's a tradition for us to have Santa Claus-looking bikinis, jump out of the hot tub, and roll in the fresh snow." Ho daddy!
