THIS PAST WINTER kicked off with a big white
bang, in both record snow and celebration. Our
New Year’s Eve party, sponsored by the Viceroy
Resort & Residences Snowmass and held at the
St. Regis Resort, Aspen, hosted the most elegant
and festive crowd to date. During ski season snow
flew like never before, resulting in epic conditions
and many GONE SKIING: SIX-INCH POWDER RULE
signs on local storefronts.
Ski aficionados also tipped their hats to Bode
Miller and Lindsey Vonn, who raced their way to
the first-ever American sweep of the men’s and
women’s overall 2008 World Cup titles.
Aspen Youth Experience’s Celebrity Downhill weekend was
nothing short of spectacular, with a star-studded patron party
cohosted by Sharon and Chris Cain held at Daryl and Dallas
Snadon’s beautiful home. During the annual ski race our
Aspen Peak team rode with a charming young snowboarder
from the AYE program. She was so surprised to see feathery
flakes fall from the sky rather than snowballs “like in cartoons.”
It’s always so refreshing to share a first-time Aspen experience.
Since the winter season began with a bang, we had to end
with one, too. The Fly Lounge opening party was a supersonic
experience and created quite a buzz about town.
Looking ahead, the summer season is chock-full of special
events. We’ll honor Boogie Weinglass, who as chairman of the
Buddy Program has worked tirelessly for our valley’s at-risk
youth for an impressive 35 years. We’re also celebrating
extended Denver coverage, including Rockies’ World Series
star Todd Helton, who takes us behind the batting cage. All
eyes are on Denver for the 2008 Democratic National Convention,
and Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper is our newest
contributor, giving his predictions for the incredible event.
Last but certainly not least, check out our new special
home and design section—“Peak In + Out”—which celebrates
our talented and innovative community of architects,
builders, and designers.
Here’s to an amazing summer—Aspen living at its peak!
